Artist Biography
Verena graduated a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash University Melbourne in 2003. After that she studied a Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy then moved to Switzerland where she started teaching English. Verena moved to Western Australia at the start of 2010 to do a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching with Visual Art as a teaching major. This was extended to a Masters of Secondary Teaching two years later. At present she teaches watercolour courses at South Perth Learning Centre.
Verena took up watercolours as her media of choice when she was living and teaching in Europe in 2006. Originally this was for it’s convenience compared to other painting media but she soon fell in love with it’s fresh, spontaneous and fluid qualities and has been devoted to exploring them ever since.
Verena’s work has three predominant themes; still life, figure paintings and dancers. Verena’s figure drawing developed into an interest in capturing movement and dance. Her most recent body of work is her maternity artworks which document her own pregnancy and experience of motherhood. Verena takes commissions from life or your favourite photos as well as paints murals such as that at the Perth Tango Club in Leederville.
